How to Install …

Windows 2000/ME/Windows NT

To install the SLFonts onto your Windows 2000/ME/Windows NT computer, follow these steps:

  1. Select the SLFont you need and download it to your Desktop.
  2. After you have downloaded the SLFont, double click on the file to start the self extraction.
  3. When the dialog box appears, click "Unzip". The Self-extraction program will automatically place the SLFonts in your "c:\winnt\fonts\" directory.
  4. Click on the "Start" button in the lower left of your screen.
  5. Click "Settings" and then "Control Panel".
  6. When the Control Panel displays, double-click on the "Fonts" icon.
  7. When the Fonts window displays, Windows will automatically initialize them and make them available on your computer.
  8. Close all display windows and restart your browser. (You should not have to restart "Windows".)

Windows 95/98

To install the SLFonts onto your Windows 95/98 computer, follow these steps :

  1. Select the SLFont you need and download it to your Desktop.
  2. After you have downloaded the SLFont, double click on the file to start the sel f extraction.
  3. When the dialog box appears, click "Unzip". The Self-extraction program will a utomatically place the SLFonts in your "c:\windows\fonts\" directory.
  4. Click on the "Start" button in the lower left of your screen.
  5. Click "Settings" and then "Control Panel".
  6. When the Control Panel displays, double-click on the "Fonts" icon.
  7. When the Fonts window displays, Windows will automatically initialize them and make them available on your computer.
  8. Close all display windows and restart your browser. (You should not have to restart "Windows".)

Windows 3.1

To install the SLFonts onto your Windows 3.1 computer, follow these steps:

  1. Select the SLFont you need and download it to your "C:\windows\" directory.
  2. Double click on the file to start the automatic self extraction.
  3. When the dialog box appears click "Unzip". The Self-extraction program will automatically place the SLFonts in your "c:\windows\fonts\" directory.
  4. Open your Control Panel and double-click on your "Fonts" icon.
  5. When the Fonts window displays, Windows will automatically initialize them and make them available.
  6. Close all display windows and restart your browser. (You should not have to restart "Windows".)

Macintosh

To install the SLFonts onto your Macintosh computer, follow these steps:

  1. Select the SLFont you need and download it to your hard disk. (This usually places the archive directly in the main directory on your hard disk. If it is not there after downloading, either (1) look on your desktop for the archive, or (2) check in your browser's "Preferences" to locate the "Downloads directory" or (3) use Find File [command-f from the Finder] to locate the archive on your disk.)
  2. Double-click on [archive name here] and save the SLFonts folder to your hard disk.
  3. Open the SLFonts folder and drag both the SLGreek and SLHebrew font suitcases onto your closed system folder. You'll be asked if you wish to put the suitcases in your fonts folder, so click on "Yes". (If you are not prompted, you may be using a pre-7.0 operating system, and you must double-click on the system folder to open it, then drag the suitcases into the "Fonts" folder manually.)

Linux

To install the SLFonts onto your Linux computer, read and follow these steps:
(Note: You must have installed a TrueType font server on your Linux PC and know the path to the ttf font directory in order to use these fonts.)

  1. Select the SLFont you need and download it into a directory on your Linux PC.
  2. Change to the directory where you downloaded it and issue the command "tar -zxvf SLFonts.tar.gz".
  3. Next issue the command "mv *.ttf /path-to-ttf-fonts-dir/", inserting the correct path to where your .ttf files reside.
  4. Change to the directory where your fonts reside and issue the command "ttmkfdir > fonts.scale" (This will recreate the fonts.scale file).
  5. Issue the command "mkfontdir" (This will recreate the fonts.dir file).
  6. Restart your TrueType font server and X server (or you can issue the command "reboot" to simply reboot).
